Trescothick pulls out of tour

Brian Rose has moved to reassure fans that Marcus Trescothick will be fine for the new season after he pulled out before boarding the plane to the UAE for Somerset’s pre-season tour. It is the latest recurrence of the stress illness that has afflicted the Somerset batsman and seen him out of international reckoning for some time.

The immediate concern is naturally for the player and hopefully this relapse will be treated and all will be ok in the future. A few obvious points are raised from this. Namely, Marcus Trescothick probably won’t tour again for Somerset and therefore England. Furthermore, this means he’s unlkely to be picked by England again as a home-only player.

That, however, is likely to be far from Marcus’ thoughts after this latest problem. Somerset fans doubtless wish him well and hope that he will be ok to play a full part in the 2008 season as Somerset are a far bigger threat with him in their ranks.
